 LETTER FROM THE CEO

John VigourouxDear Reader,

Cybercrime keeps evolving, and today’s cybercrime enemy is organized in hierarchical cybercrime organizations. In our latest trends report Q2 2008, we show you how they operate and benefit from stolen data using new cybercrime business models for optimal operation. These findings show again that the security industry should increase its efforts to provide adequate protection for enterprises.

I’m pleased to announce that Finjan was granted a new and important patent for caching at the Secure Gateways recently, which further asserts Finjan’s leadership in the Web security market. Finjan remains committed to ensure that our customers benefit from the most advanced security products in order to protect their valuable business data.

Real-time content inspection keeps gaining ground as a preferred technology to fight Cybercrime attacks. In their latest product reviews of our web content security solutions, both IT PRO and Network Computing highlighted how well Finjan’s active real-time content inspection and its Vital Security appliances perform and protect against Crimeware. It affirms our prime position to protect enterprises big and small against inbound and outbound malicious Web content.

As always, I invite you to visit our website regularly to keep abreast of the latest Finjan news.

John Vigouroux

ITPro Product Review – Editor’s Choice

Businesses are increasingly coming under threat from ever more sophisticated and cleverly crafted attacks designed specifically to fox traditional scanning methods. Finjan specializes in web content security and its range of Vital Security appliances offers an interesting selection of unique features that have a highly proactive stance when faced with new threats. Read what ITPro’s editor Dave Mitchell has to say about Finjan’s NG-6000s and why it won the ITPRO Editor’s Choice award:

Network Computing Product Review

With hackers using ever more sophisticated attack patterns, security vendors in turn have to be equally devious. Dynamic code obfuscation is a classic example, as this can easily circumvent traditional signature based scanners, but Finjan's active real-time content inspection can identify these types of threats and block them. On review is the NG-6000S enterprise solution which is presented as a well specified 2U IBM rack server. All Finjan's appliances run the same code which delivers three unique features. Along with behavioral blocking, you have Finjan's Anti.dote which covers the window of opportunity between a threat being publicized, and a patch being made available.

Malicious Page of the Month

Our malicious page of the month (MPOM) publications cover the latest Web threats (including Crimeware, Web 2.0 attacks, Trojans and other forms of malware) that our Malicious Code Research Center ( MCRC) labs have found to be interesting in terms of the technology, attack vector, or vulnerability exploited for malicious purposes. Depending on the subject, each report provides a detailed analysis of malicious codes, explanations of the infection techniques and payload, as well as screenshots.

  • May 2008 - The Cybercrime Market Place
In this paper, we will be reviewing the Cybercrime marketplace.
We also show actual examples taken from the more than 500Mb of data stored on a Crimeware server that we analyzed. It included business related data, as well as personal identifiable information (stolen SSNs). On another Crimeware server that we analyzed, we found medical data including patient and HIPAA related data.
All data is part of the more premium offerings that the cybercriminals operating the Crimeware server were able to offer to the highest bidder.

 SUCCESS STORIES

The City of Utrecht (Gemeente Utrecht) Selects Finjan to Protect Their Networks

The City of Utrecht (Gemeente Utrecht) deployed Finjan’s Secure Web Gateway to secure its infrastructure and data and to ensure the availability, integrity and confidentiality of its communications. Utrecht is the fourth largest city in the Netherlands with a population of close to 300,000 citizens. The City’s 4,000 users are divided into departments such as the Fire Department (Brandweer), Municipal Healthcare Services (GGD) and the Department of Civil Affairs (Burgerzaken). The City of Utrecht is both legally and ethically bound to protect the privacy of information. It therefore needed security in the form of safe browsing for its users, requiring scanning of HTTP/HTTPS, FTP, P2P, IM, etc., as well as protection against Crimeware and Web 2.0 attacks.
